Secure and simple

Samsung Pay is a secure and simple way to make mobile payments with selected Samsung devices. You can find a list of compatible devices on the Samsung Pay website Opens an overlay [Will show a security message first].

Use your first direct credit or debit card with Samsung Pay to make payments virtually anywhere you can tap your contactless card. You can also make payments in apps and on websites where you see the Samsung Pay Checkout button. Samsung Pay lets you make purchases above the £100 contactless limit with most retailers as well.

Here's what you need before you start:

You can add a card to Samsung Pay by following these steps:

Samsung phone:

Download Samsung Pay from the Galaxy Store. Opens an overlay [Will show a security message first]

Open the Samsung Pay app.
Tap Menu in the top left corner, and then tap Cards.
Next, tap Add card (blue +card icon), and then tap Add credit/debit card.
Scan your first direct credit or debit card information, or enter the details manually.
In some cases you’ll have to verify your card with a one-time passcode which will be sent to you by SMS.

Samsung smartwatch:

If you have the Samsung Pay app on your phone, you can either import cards onto your watch from your phone or can add cards manually via your phone to pay using your watch.

Open the Galaxy Wearable app on the phone connected to your watch.
Tap the Home tab, and then swipe to and tap Samsung Pay.
Next, you can tap ‘Import cards’ from the Samsung Pay app on your phone onto your watch and follow on-screen instructions to verify your card.
Alternatively, you can click ‘Add credit or debit card’ and scan your first direct credit or debit card information, or enter your card details manually.
In some cases you’ll have to verify your card with a one-time passcode which will be sent to you by SMS.

Once you've verified your card, you're ready to make contactless payments on the go.

Samsung Phone

Open Samsung Pay on your phone, tap Menu (the three horizontal lines), and then tap Cards.
Select the card you want to remove, and then tap More options (the three vertical dots).
Tap Delete card, and then choose a reason for removing the card.
Tap DELETE, and then enter your Samsung Pay PIN or biometrics.

Samsung Smartwatch

On the watch, press and hold the Back (top) key until Samsung Pay launches.
When prompted, input your PIN. If you have multiple cards, swipe to the card you want to remove.
Tap More options (the three vertical dots), tap Delete, and then tap the minus sign.
To delete cards through your phone, navigate to and open the Galaxy Wearable app.
Tap Samsung Pay, and then select the card you want to remove.
Swipe up the card details, tap the Delete icon, and then tap Delete.

Using Samsung Pay

Paying In stores

To pay in-store with your phone, simply swipe up on the screen or open the Samsung Pay app from your home screen. Select the card you want to pay with, hold the device near the contactless reader and confirm your payment using your Iris scanner (on compatible devices), fingerprint or Samsung Pay PIN.

To pay in-store using your Samsung watch, press and hold the button on the back of your watch and then enter your PIN. Next, rotate the visual bezel to select a card and tap ‘PAY’. Hold your watch close to the contactless card reader for the payment to be processed.

Paying in apps and on websites

To pay within participating apps and websites, select the Samsung Pay Checkout button and confirm your payment using your Iris scanner (on compatible devices), fingerprint or Samsung Pay PIN

Pay on Transport for London (TfL)

Samsung Pay allows you to set a card up as a 'transport card' to use on TfL services. This option means you don’t even need to wake your phone or verify with a fingerprint or PIN - simply touch the middle section of your phone (where the antenna is located) against the card reader.

You can use this service for pay as you go on London buses, Tube, London Trams, DLR, London Overground, TfL Rail, Emirates Air Line, River Bus and most National Rail services in London.

What is Samsung Pay and which devices are compatible?

Samsung Pay is a simple and secure way to make payments in-store, wherever you see the contactless payment symbol. Samsung Pay lets you make purchases above the £100 contactless limit with most retailers, and you can use it to pay in participating apps and websites where you see the Samsung Pay Checkout button. You can find a list of compatible devices on the

How is my default payment card in Samsung Pay determined?

The last card you viewed in Samsung Pay will automatically appear as your default card the next time you open the app. However, you can go to settings to select a default card. Finally, you can always swipe between all the cards you have added and select a different card before making a purchase.

What is a transport card?

You can set a card up as a ‘transport card’ to use on TfL services. You don’t even need to wake your phone or verify with a fingerprint or PIN – simply touch the middle section of your phone (where the antenna is located) against the card reader. How is Samsung Pay secured?

Samsung Pay uses Tokenization and Samsung KNOX to secure your payment information. Additionally, your fingerprint or a 4-digit Samsung Pay PIN is required to authorize in-store purchases, or iris scanning on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+.

I have been prompted for a one-time passcode when adding a card to Samsung Pay. What is this and why is it required?

We will ask you to enter a one-time passcode to confirm your identity. This code is a series of numbers and will be sent via email or text. If prompted, please select how you wish to receive this code and then enter it into the appropriate field. If we don't hold contact details for you, you will need to call us to verify your card.

Where can I use Samsung Pay and is it free to use?

Samsung Pay is free to use, but your mobile network provider may apply charges depending on your data plan.

How many cards can I add into Samsung Pay?

Do I need to have an active internet connection for Samsung Pay to work?

An active internet connection is not required to make in-store purchases, but your phone should connect to the internet at least once per day to ensure that Samsung Pay stays up to date and remains active. You can perform several authentications/transactions during a period without internet access, after which your phone will need an internet connection before additional authentications will process. Samsung Pay does require an active internet connection to activate the app or add a new card.

How do I make in-store purchases with Samsung Pay?

Start by either swiping-up from the home button or opening the Samsung Pay app from your home screen. Select the card you want to pay with. You can authenticate by fingerprint, iris scanner (available on Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ phones), or PIN. Hover your phone about 2-4 cm over the contactless terminal where you’d usually tap your physical card to complete the transaction.

How do I return a purchase if I used Samsung Pay to make the payment?

All purchases made through Samsung Pay can be returned according to the store’s policies. If you return an item paid for through Samsung Pay, the store may require you to hover your phone over the contactless terminal to complete the return.

What should I do if I lose my device?

If your device is lost or stolen, you can use Samsung's Find My Mobile Opens an overlay [Will show a security message first] service to remotely disable your cards on that device.

Alternatively, you can call us on 03 456 100 100* to suspend or remove your card from Samsung Pay.

What should I do if I lose my card?

You can report your card as lost or stolen in our App or by calling us on 03 456 100 100*.

Once you report your card as lost or stolen, it will be stopped. When we send your new card, you won’t need to register it with Samsung Pay again as your new details will be updated automatically.

When your new card arrives, start using it as soon as possible to continue using Samsung Pay.

What happens when my card expires?

If your card is nearing expiry, a replacement is automatically issued and the details are updated in Samsung Pay for you. If the expiry month has passed and you haven’t received a new card, please give us a call on 03 456 100 100*.

What happens if I replace or update my device?

Is Samsung Pay secure?

Samsung Pay is a secure way to make payments. When you make a payment, you will need to authenticate your identity by using your fingerprint or Samsung Pay PIN, before the information can be sent to the payment terminal. The merchant will only receive an encrypted token, and your payment information will be kept secure. Your actual credit or debit card numbers are never shared by Samsung with merchants, or transmitted with payment.

To protect your card:

You must make sure that you don’t choose a Samsung Pay PIN that can be easily guessed by anyone else or tell anyone else what your device passcode is; and you must ensure that you do not store anyone else's fingerprint or Iris scan within your Samsung device.
