What makes Maggie's so special?

Every two minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. In London alone, over 200,000 people are living with the disease, and this is forecast to double by 2030.

As the number of people living with cancer increases, so does the need for care and support. Luckily, that's where Maggie's comes in.

Built in the grounds of NHS hospitals across the UK, every Maggie's Centre provides practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer, as well as their families and friends. These places are special - more than a doctor's surgery, they offer a warm welcome and a calm, comforting space away from the chaos.

And as Maggie's launch their next mission to help more people than ever before, we wanted to share what makes them so special - and let you know what you can do to help.

  • One for all

Whether it's children wanting to know more about what's happening to mum or dad, a partner looking for the right words, a whole family seeking a quiet place to talk or the person living with cancer themselves - Maggie's is here for everyone. And with reports saying that by 2020, one in two people will have cancer in their lifetime, that's a comforting thought.

  • Care of all kinds

From yoga classes to nutrition courses, stress workshops to gardening groups - the range of support that Maggie's offer is as varied as the people there.

Professional staff including psychologists, relaxation specialists and benefits advisors are always on hand to help. Centres are specifically designed to provide a calm, beautiful and relaxing environment where people can feel comfortable.

    And it's all free.

  • A mission to do even more

Last year, Maggie's made a difference to more people's lives than ever before. Almost 53,000 people people visited a Maggie's Centre for the first time, with centres receiving almost 220,000 visits in total.

But even this incredible impact is not enough for Maggie's. They're on a mission to help as many people as they possibly canm with plans to expand their presence in communities across the UK over the next three years.

  • Cancer support in the capital

London has some of the most deprived areas in the UK. People with cancer in London can have poorer outcomes and patient experience compared to elsewhere in the UK.

That's why Maggie's are planning to quadruple the support services they offer in London, building three new centres at some of the city's most important hospitals - and making sure that everyone has access to the support they need.

We're really proud to have such an amazing charity partner, and we're doing all we can to keep boosting awareness of who they are and the great work they do.

It costs just £40 for Maggie's to provide an hour of specialist support for someone affected by cancer. Over the coming year we'll be taking part in all sorts of fundraising activities to help Maggie's provide thousands of hours of cancer support.
