Goodbye January...Hello February!

February. Cold, frosty February. There's only one way to describe you, and that's brrrr. But don't dread Feb. It's full of fantastic things. Here's our pick of the bunch to help you get stuck into all that the second month has to offer.

In times gone by, Shrove Tuesday was the way to use up all the leftover eggs, cooking fat and treats before Lent kicked in. Somewhere along the line pancakes got thrown into the mix, and we think that was a genius idea. Well done, that person. Chocolate sauce on ours, please.

If you have some pancake mix left over, you a) haven't eaten enough pancakes, and b) can make some lovely Yorkshire Puddings. Good eating all round.

According to the weatherman, there's a good chance we'll get more snow in February. Fantastic. Reintroduce yourself to your inner child, run outside and build a snowman bigger than you are.

There are some unusual and wonderful things going on around the country this month.

You could come face to face with some of the scarecrows on show at Cheshire's annual festival. Or why not experience life as a Viking in York? There's also a celebration of the humble potato this month, in the Dorset village of Drimpton.

If you're like the majority of people and get paid at the end of the month, pay day is coming more quickly. January might have felt like it lasted a long time, but even with the extra day with the leap year this year, there are only 29 days to wait.
