Members of my household are now working from home, where I've previously advised there's no business use taking place at my home address. Do I need to tell you?

You don’t need to tell us if members of your household are now working from home solely in a clerical capacity. Your current cover levels remain the same. Please check your policy cover still meets your needs.

If members of your household are now working from home in a non-clerical capacity (eg. You have stock or goods at home) and you previously told us there’s no business use at your home address, please contact us to discuss.

Will I be charged if I want to make changes to my policy?

We don’t charge for making changes to your policy. So if you wanted, for example, to remove personal belongings cover or add home emergency cover during the lockdown period, your premium may change but there would be no additional charges.

What happens if a fire or other event destroys my home while I’m self-isolating? Can I get alternative accommodation?

In the unfortunate event of your home becoming uninhabitable due to any cause that your policy covers whilst you’re in self-isolation, Aviva would manage the situation based on your individual circumstances in accordance with their normal claims process. This may involve providing solutions to make your home habitable or providing suitable alternative accommodation.

Is my employer's business equipment covered while I work from home?

The vast majority of employers will insure their business equipment, such as computers, laptops, monitors and printers. In the rare event it's not covered in your home, or if employees are legally liable for damage or theft, then we support our home contents customers by taking a more flexible approach. Please check your policy cover still meets your needs.

If you’re legally liable for any employer’s business equipment and working from home in a clerical capacity, we'll pay if employees are legally liable for any damage or the employer doesn't have cover in place, up to any policy limit for office equipment. Those home working from garages or outbuildings should also check their policy cover is sufficient as there may be limits on the cover provided, for example, on theft from outbuildings.
