How do I pay in a cheque?

The quickest way to deposit a cheque into a 1st Account, Savings Account or Bonus Savings Account is using the App.

First , select the account you want the cheque to be paid into. 

Then, go to the 'More' menu and select ‘Pay in a cheque’. On an iPhone the 'More' menu is represented by three dots in the top right of the screen. On an Android phone it’s the plus sign in the bottom right of the screen.

You can then scan your cheque using your smartphone camera.

For the best results, place the cheque flat on a dark, unreflective background/surface and ensure the image is in focus and the whole cheque is visible inside the box on the screen. The cheque will then be captured automatically.

We don’t charge you for paying in a cheque via the app, however data charges from the network provider may apply.

When will the cheque clear?

The process for clearing cheques digitally is much quicker than the traditional system. Cheques paid in before 10pm on a working day will be available by 11:59pm the next working day.

You can see when the cheque has cleared by checking your balance.

There's been a problem paying in my cheque

If there are any problems with the cheque we receive, we’ll contact you using the postal address you’ve given us. You can check your address on file in the 'Profile' section of this App.

You can pay in up to £2000 a day in cheques using the App, with each individual cheque limited to £2000. If your cheque is over £2000 you can post it in to us or pay it in at an HSBC branch or Post Office.

Make sure you hang onto the cheque until the money is available in your account.
