Who’s running the prize draw?

first direct, a division of HSBC UK Bank plc (‘we, us’), is the promoter of the prize draw.

Can I enter the prize draw?

To enter you need to:

• live in the UK
• be 18+
• hold a sole or joint first direct current account (1st Account) that was opened on or before 1 July 2024
• opt into the prize draw via link in email (sent to customers opted into marketing) or a banner in our App
• make 30 debit card transactions, including where you have set up your card in Google Pay, or Apple Pay. Note: the following are excluded: gambling transactions, credit card or insurance payments, cash withdrawals and card to card payments. Transactions must be posted in your account between: 
  • September draw: 1 September 2024 00:01 to 30 September 23:59
  • October draw: 1 October 2024 00:01 to 31 October 2024 23:59
  • November draw: 1 November 2024 00:01 to 30 November 23:59

You can’t enter if:

• you’ve been involved with organising or running the prize draw
• you’re entering for someone else.

Your entry won’t count if you don’t meet the above. You’ll be disqualified if you stop meeting these criteria at any time before the prize draw ends (even if your entry was valid when you entered). 

Your 1st Account must remain open and in good standing during the promotional period and until after the prize payment has been made.  You won't be eligible to receive the prize draw payment if you close your account before the prize payment has been made.

You won't be eligible for prize draw entry if first direct is unable to verify that you've met the relevant eligibility criteria, or if you're prevented or restricted from participating due to law or a technical failure of any kind (including failure of any information technology). 

You can only enter each monthly prize draw once and opting in will enter you for any remaining 35th birthday prize draws. For joint accounts, entry is per customer not per account.

How do I enter?

To enter you need to opt in via email or banner in our App.

The deadlines to opt in are as follows:

• September draw: opt in before 30 September 2024 23:59
• October draw: opt in before 31 October 2024 23:59
• November draw: opt in before 30 November 2024 23:59
  

If you opt in prior to the closing date and meet all the eligibility criteria, then you’ll be included in the draw and any of the remaining 35th birthday draws, subject to you meeting the eligibility criteria for that month.

This prize draw is free to enter. 

We won’t accept entries received after the closing date. 

What are the prizes?

There will be one prize draw per month in September, October and November 2024. In the September and October monthly draws there are:

• 10 prizes of £3,500
• 4,235 prizes of £100
• 235 prizes of £35.

For the November draw, there are:

• 10 prizes of £3,500
• 4,235 prizes of £100
• 1007 prizes of £35.

The odds of winning will depend on the total number of valid entries received.

How will winners be chosen?

Winners will be randomly picked by computer software on the following dates:

• September draw: 10 October 2024
• October draw: 13 November 2024
• November draw: 11 December 2024

If the winners cannot be selected on this date, due to any unforeseen events, it’ll take place as soon as possible afterwards. 

Promoter’s decision is final.

How will I know if I’ve won?

If you win, we’ll try to contact you by email within 14 days of the draw date. 

Your prize will be paid directly into your Current Account (1st Account) within 14 days of the draw being made.

If you hold more than one 1st Account, this will be an account of our choosing (which may also include a joint account).

We cannot give your prize to someone else. 

What else do I need to know?

We’re not responsible for any loss or damage you incur by taking part in the prize draw, unless the loss or damage is caused by our negligence.  

If you win, you’re responsible for any tax liabilities.

We can change these terms or cancel the prize draw without telling you in advance if:

• required by law, or
• there are reasons beyond our control, or
• there’s a fair or valid reason.

Your personal data

You can find out the surnames and first part of the postcode of the winners by emailing firstdirect-draw@firstdirect.com. If you win, we may give your surname and the first part of your postcode to anyone who requests this information, including our regulators. You can tell us if you don’t want us to do this or if you want to limit the amount of information that we make available about a winning entry by emailing firstdirect-draw@firstdirect.com.

If you win, we might ask you if we can use your information and entry in any promotional activities or publicity linked to the prize draw.

We’ll use your information to run the prize draw and award prizes.
