What career progression can I expect?

We're a big business, so you'll always find opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge.

Everyone who joins will have a continuous learning programme over the first 12 to 18 months. Once this is complete, there may well be scope to move into other roles within first direct/HSBC Group.

All vacancies are advertised internally and there are a range of career paths to follow. We encourage everyone to create a Personal Development Plan with their Team Leader, which helps them to focus and work towards their goals. Training and support are available from a range of sources to help you progress.

What if I've previously been employed by first direct or HSBC?

I've never worked in a bank or call centre before - does this matter?

You've got this far so you've definitely shown us that you have some of the skills we are looking for! Lots of people who join us have no banking or call centre experience whatsoever. We're very different to other banks in this respect. So long as you're naturally warm and friendly on the phone, your induction training will give you all the product knowledge, procedures, communication techniques and sales support you need to perform in your role.
